A CONFESSION!!!

As I mentioned yesterday, my A.D.D. brain has been frantically trying to organize all my 2012 Happenings and "To Do's" so that I'm not A Day Late or running with my hair on fire trying to keep up. I've always depended on my "handy dandy notebook", however I really needed a day planner or calendar inset within the "handy dandy notebook"........SO.......as much as I hated to add another thing to carry, I bought a day-planner... a small one, but it will do the job of helping me organize my time better....

Now for the confession....... Are ya Ready? Please don't "judge me" or gasp at what I'm about to say................. I still have all my Christmas decorations up!!! Yep, dead Noble Fir, fully decorated in the corner of the living room..... I know... IT"S SHOCKING even to me, however I've been getting ready for a jam packed next few months, and frankly, it's just not the top of my priority list! LOL! I've had this line item in my Notebook for the past 2 weeks, so... I will Announce when the BIG Happening occurs, and maybe I will have a Raffle Prize in order to CELEBRATE!!! LOL

I feel a little guilty to share that I went to a Magical place today in Downtown Portland, and I'd love to share this UNBELIEVABLE NOTIONS and TRIMS store: THE BUTTON EMPORIUM .... I get so overwhelmed when I go there, I really need to know what Im looking for, or my brain would explode!!! LOL! The Website isn't super flashy, however if you are looking for hard to find threads, buttons, ribbons, vintage trims, etc... take a look there!

As some of you know, in this past year I've been teaching Whimsie making ONLINE, and as much as I've "taught", I've got to say I've learned that much more. There are so many beautiful souls out there shining through their creative spirit that it's just blinding!

One of my "students" shared this VIDEO with the class yesterday, and I wanted to share it with you!

Another beautiful "student" has given me my "theme" for today: If God leads me to it - He will lead me through it.

My Handy Dandy Notebook

Where would I be without my NOTEBOOK? Good Lord, I'd hate to imagine!

I've been keeping NOTEBOOKS for most of CC's Whimsies career. Prior to having my own business, I used a Daytimer..mainly to C.Y.A, however I realized the importance of accomplishing things via documentation. As an independant business person, only YOU can keep yourself on track, tell yourself "good job", and ultimately watch your goals materialize.

Every morning, I make coffee, grab the newspaper, and then make my list in the Notebook. Sometimes it's just simple things, however being able to cross something off the list, builds some confidence and momentum that will build to something bigger.

I always make a weekly goal of 4 or 5 things that I incorporate into the 7 days... Those things always feel great to cross off. My goal is to be able to write a few one year goals, and that's what this Blog journey is all about.... figuring those out!

I LOVE Friday the 13th's!!!

Yes, today is one of several Friday the 13th's in 2012. The Elf and I got married on the 13th (not a Friday), however we've had several Friday the 13th Wedding Anniversaries in the past 27 years. I've always considered our finding each other and going through life together as one of the best blessings that I've been given, so the 13th is LUCKY for me...no matter what day of the week....

This brings me to my thought of the day.... Isn't life and all of it's magic (and sometimes not so magic :), just an exercise in PERCEPTION. Our attitudes and beliefs make any situation "GREAT" or "BAD" depending on how we want to perceive it! Yesterday was a prime example that I was a grumpy pants from the start. Why? Well, there were several reasons, but normally I don't get my panties in a bunch over them....

I'm a big believer if you have nothing nice to say, then don't saything at all.... hence, NO POST yesterday. Yes, I realize I will have days in the coming year that I'm going to post something that makes me frustrated or angry, however on Day 3 of my journey, I didn't want to go there. LOL!

Ultimately I ironed out my "grumpy pants" by making my mind STOP and list 5 things that I am thankful for...breathed in and out...and decided to give myself a break for the day. I know it was for the best because I woke up this morning with a CREATIVE BRAINSTORM! Ahhhhh, now that's what's best with a cup of coffee!

FEAR!

I consider this thing called "FEAR" the #1 Life Inhibitor.... A human will never fufill their life's ultimate potential with this bad boy called in FEAR in their life!

As much as I know this, this bad boy does play havoc in my life. I know as we age, we naturally become more "cautious" because we just know or have seen some really crappy stuff! That's why kids do "dumb" stuff because they are FEARLESS!! Yes, kids "just don't know better" and "they will figure it out".... but maybe we need to be a LOT more like them!

I've always considered myself a risk taker and have gambled on my future quite a bit in the past. Sadly, though in the last 4 years, I've gambled and lost over and over again. Why? I don't know...however I do believe all things happen for a reason and the out come was as it was suppose to be..... But it does leave scars and I need a lot of "aloe vera"... LOL!

As an artist you've got to be FEARLESS...especially if you want to make a business out of it, which I DO!!! The biggest poison to fear is "DONT OVER THINK IT"... My first thing I'm working on, and I know this will take lots of practice. My mind is constantly running 180 mph, however I must keep my mind in a positive direction...working towards goals and dreams.... I guess that's why this FOG BANK is KILLING ME. The only way to defeat FEAR is to keep believing in your dreams.

So for today... Do something that makes you uncomfortable..... I did! I kicked and screamed inside, but I got through it.... JUST DO IT! Until tomorrow... Christy

Hello and Welcome to my journey of "STARTING OVER" with life, ART, and dreams. In the past 4 1/2 years I've lost my "rocks" (my dad and one of my best friends and muse, Penny), my mother and brother, and most importantly, the ability to DREAM.
Without the ability to dream, you find yourself adrift in the open sea, amidst a severe fog bank, and NO COMPASS!!! Yep, I'm totally LOST!!

In 371 days I will be turning 50 years old... As I realize this could be "mid-life" or "three quarters" of life, it also could be so much less than that... So it's time to scream CARPE DIEM and commit myself to finding my compass, and getting the hell out of this foggy sea!!!

I will be using this blog as a journal of my daily ponderings, giggles, frustrations, "happy happys", and my WINGS again. I hope you will stop on by every now and then to laugh, cry, have a cocktail, smack your computer, bitch, and ultimately see that you are NOT ALONE in this crazy world. So until tomorrow....

Kids…. It’s TOUGH out THERE! I know this isn’t news to you, but it‘s just high time I said it! We are barraged with BAD NEWS and stress daily. At times, I would like to pull the curtains, build higher fences, and never pay attention to anything outside of these four walls for a very long time!

As a full-time artist and family caretaker I struggle with how I can “make a difference” through my art and daily life. Our family income is barely above the water line of poverty (LOL…sad but true), and my time is spent trying to create art and take care of those around me. This can no longer be an excuse! I must do better to be more aware of opportunities to make a difference….no matter how small!

I know my Whimsies bring smiles to the savaged hearts, and small moments of peace and hope to many. If you, or someone you know, needs a little reminder that you are thinking of them and that they matter, please leave a note here or on FACEBOOK, and I will contact you. I will send a little of my “heART” in your behalf or to you. I will do as many as I can each Friday, and hopefully, if we all think about a way that each of us can lift the wings of someone you know, or even a stranger, our World will be much brighter. I am teaching my first Workshop this year in Chehalis, Washington, on Sunday, July 11th, from 9:30am to 5:00pm with Terri Brush. A sweetheart of a lady whom I've known for many years has invited me to teach. This one day ART Retreat will be held at Terri Brush's studio. A long time thought in my head that I have finally created just for this class! Each of you will create and complete a Halloween "Advent" Calendar for you and yours to enjoy for years to come. We will travel the Mixed Media map with techniques in sculpting with paper clay, painting with acrylics, and collage to produce something MAGICAL for your home. Handy supplies to bring with you would be collage papers, co-ordinating buttons, and if you have a favorite paint brush..... I will post a picture of your project when available. The Cost of this One Day Workshop is $140.00

It's been a sad time and an end to a sad Chapter in my life..... I know that sounds pretty down, however it's ALL UP FROM HERE!!! I am soooooo ready to be rid of the constant stress and thoughts over the welfare of my Mom and her belongings, and I am almost there!

Queen of A.D.D., I have so many projects going at once, I'm never quite sure which ones will be finished first!!! No EBAY last week, as I felt that most people would be enjoying their last weekend of Summer.... It always makes me a little sad, as Jack just keeps growing up and soon the rains will come... waaaaaah!

I've really been tormented over what I'd like to write in my blog for weeks....as there is sooooooo much going on in my world. Sadly, not very positive and as much as I'd like to pour my heart out, I think it's just best to focus on the positive and just GET BACK TO WORK! So I've alerted all family members that unless you are on FIRE, please don't call me during studio time..(10am-3pm daily). For the most part, everyone is trying to conform to this regimen, but there are "violators" every now and then.. lol!

Conan is growing like a pony and gains about 5 to 7 lbs a week!(as of last week he was 56 lbs). We were having his ears cropped, and he was "overdoing" so the tips were flipped....so back to bandages we went.... Poor Conan.... only a couple more days to go... I hope his ears will finally be free!

I'm sure many of you know that Halloween starts in May for many artists as well as me. It is my most FAVORITE theme which allows the occassional "darker" side of Whimsies and still give the Whimsical side of things... And in true A.D.D. fashion, I have 8 pieces going all at once! lol

Our baby, "Conan O'Meyers", is growing everyday. He has doubled his size and weight since we brought him home. We had his ears cropped last week, and oh Lord, I don't know if I'd ever do that again! Doesn't time fly when your BUSY!!! lol Hi everyone out in Blogland! It's been an incredibly busy past few weeks with Whimsie goals and more life adjustments. We moved my Mom home to the smaller grandma's quarters, and she is doing very well.. HALLEJUAH! Of course moving AGAIN and establishing all the needs of a household has been a lot of BUSY work for my family. Sometimes, I just have to remember to breathe..

I've always been having some health issues that have been put on the back burner way to long. I've spent a lot of time at the lab and the DR's trying to get to the bottom of the problem, but nothing new yet.

I do have 8 projects in the studio all being worked on at the same time. Two of those were placed on the PFATT MARKETPLACE today. Maybe one of these sings to you... Both are clocks and are quite unique.

Whew! Only 3 days left in 2008, and what a year it has been! I always spend a lot of this time planning for 2009 and what my goals are for the year. I really hope to make a "come back", as my world has been very upside down for the past 18 months. Taking care of mom and all her financial affairs has pressed my wings down hard....so I pray this year I can make my way to a happier time.

I wanted to show off my last 2 pieces of 2008 which were special orders for Christmas. I wanted to wait until after Christmas because I didn't want to spoil the surprise for their happy new Mamas.

I wish for only good and happy times for all of you bloggers in the world. May you always have fluttering wings to keep you high above the negative influences in our world. Keep dreaming and never give up! Love to you all!

Still trying to do laundry and clean up after being gone 4 days, but I wanted to post our picture taken with Jillian and Janet (of course) backstage before the show. It was a THRILL and I will try to post a video to show you some of the show...

I met up with my bestest friend, Sammie, in Las Vegas and introduced her to some of our oldest friends... A GREAT, GREAT TIME was had by all. I can't wait to do it again next week....lol... I wish!

Now back to the World of Whimsies! I've been really concentrating on what I REALLY want to do and work getting better from the inside out. Hopefully a Whimsie will appear occasionally.... Only time will tell! For now... keep positive and enjoy!

It was a BIG night last night! My "little" girl performed her first concert with Janet Jackson in Vancouver, British Columbia. I will be flying to Las Vegas next week to see the concert myself, on September 19th. I am so EXCITED and proud to watch Jillian reach another milestone in her career path and be a part of her dreams!

A little Project

Call me crazy, but I swear the weather is changing here in the Northwest...This subtle change spurred some "nesting" in my pig pen of a studio. lol... What? You don't create in a beautiful, sun-filled, artist loft? naaaaaaahhhhhhh...

I've recently added some new "tricks" to the Whimsie tool bucket... GOLDEN FLUID ACRYLICS, Artist Crayons, and Water Soluable Oil Pastels... So fun, however I needed to surround myself with my tools, so a little reorganization was needed.

Here's my little process and a Whimsie hint on how to paint anything!

Seems like I was just muttering this same statement about the Summer this morning, but so is this JOL Salsa Can Man Here is the first my "GREEN WHIMSIES" collection... I will be recycling some of nature's biggest nemesis (ie plastic bags, foil, cans, etc) by incorporating into my art. As many of you know these supplies are not very beautiful or easy to work with! I've been playing mad scientist experimenting with each of these, and I hope to giving new life in art versus landfills. I'm excited at the challenge and possibilities!

I get sad thinking that Summer is passing so quickly... Let's just slow everything down! Sit in the bright rays. Smell the clothes on the line. Squeeze every bit of sweetness out of the season before it's gone...POOF!

I hope you have not fainted and hurt yourself from the fall, but I've managed to FINISH my 2nd Halloween Whimsie, a Vintage Can Witch, named "Wilamenia". I hope she finds a good new home! Spiritual Help and a Ho Ho!

It was fast and furious, but the PFATT Marketplace was released on the 10th, and POOF, they were gone! I am so thankful that people even remember me, so when I sell something it just gives me a boost.

I wish I could go into all the behind the scenes actions here at home, but frankly it makes me tired and stressed out........ So, I will just say that with the help of "self help" books and a lot of prayers, I think I have solved my mom's financial troubles and home selling problem... I will know more by the end of next week, but I'm very excited at the solution....

I am a BIG believer in self help books... so if you are down and feeling like the world is crashing in on you.... I would like to suggest the following:

This book took me from 0 to 60 in only 188 pages...After I finished reading this book I quit my job and never looked back. I firmly believe this is a life changing book, and have read this book about 5 times. Super fast and cheap read.. Click HERE to order your own.

Heaven got another great girl today.... our last chow, Whiskers. Whiskers has been not well for the past couple of weeks, but we gave it our all.

Whiskers has a lot of company up there, so I know she was welcomed. Her brother, Doc and sister, Asyln...her mama Emma and her daddy Bubba.... As well as Sampson, Pumpkin, Ruby, and good ole' Peeler. We have owned Chows for the past 28 years, and they have given us many years of love and friendship. We miss them all, and now Whiskers is at peace. God take care of her...

Resting...

Sometimes we must rest, whether we believe we should or not.... Forces seem to work against you and your plans. I have spent many days in bed due to oral surgery, but it has given me some much needed time to rest. For the first time in a very long time, I've been able to have some creative and whimsical thoughts, which might be the Vicadin talking or just allowing myself to "be quiet".

I have hope that I will be able to create once again with the help of forces beyond my control. I hope you will all find some quiet moments to rest your mind, body, and spirit. Love, Christy

I see the Finish Line!

With bruises and new found muscles, (painful I must add) I am seeing the finish line in the preparation of selling my parent's home. As painful as the estate sale was, this portion has proven to be very therapeutic. It has been a HUGE job that Elf and my boys (Max and Jack) have accomplished pretty much by ourselves. A real family bonding experience!!!

One of the most heartening things has been the reminders from my Dad that he is here and watching over all of us. We have experienced some really strange things, but none of us have been frightened.... just comforted. If you notice in the above picture, the orbs in my Dad's office....

That's it for now. I'm really plowing through this last part of my responsibilities and look forward to brighter and more creative times in the very near future. God Bless!

We are back from PFATTfest 2008, and what a BLAST!!! Five states and a dozen or so Pfatties attended, our Annual event. Lots of laughter, drinks, shopping, and talent filled our house. I hope this happy heart keeps my going forward into the coming months.

Well thankfully the heavens did, and so on Thursday I will be meeting some my dear PFATTIES in Napa for 5 days! I've had the good fortune to laugh with several ladies and I imagine we will be life long friends.... So now I can add more to my list.

What is REALLY Important???

I have had several revelations on this journey through my parents memories and mine. As I have sifted through all my parents and grandparents belongings, I have come to a few BIG revelations. I hope to share a few of these with you in the coming weeks...God willing (I take nothing for granted anymore)

L*E*T*T*E*R*S.....My parents and my grandparents saved letters. Carefully preserved letters, documents, and cards were found everywhere. Paper seems so fragile, and yet, it can be held intact for over a century. How did mom and grandma know just what to hold onto? I know as a parent this question just drives me nuts. Now I know the answer... ANYTHING!!! Yes, that's right...Anything! Keep those simple letters of "how ya doing" from a friend or a little note from your honey or child.... 50 to 100 years from now, your children will marvel and go back in time instantly through these simple little notes. WRITE, WRITE, WRITE!!!! It's my newest challenge... Ditch Email! Write a letter or two with your own hand.... You will be happy you did, and so will your children.

Well, I hope you are still out there.... I feel so "far away" from my normal life, but I feel I am on a journey that I am suppose to be on. I just pray that I can get back to creating VERY SOON!!! I miss it and all of you so very much!!! Bless you all!

Dreams Really do Come True

Watching a dream come alive does a spirit good. This week my daughter Jillian is out performing with Janet Jackson while she promotes her newest album. She was on Good Morning America and MTV yesterday, and will appear on ELLEN on Friday. Go baby girl!

Being a small part of my girl's dreams gives me a warm feeling of hope for us all. Even if your dreams seem so far and so unattainable, never stop believing in yourself and the possibilities of the Universe. Dreams really do come true...

To all my wonderful friends out in Blogland... Thank you for all the prayers for my Mom and I..... We have traveled many miles in the past 4 weeks, and things are working as they are suppose to...I guess...

Sometimes it is hard to have faith that everything will work out the way it's suppose to.... More shall be revealed, I'm sure..... Mom is settling into a beautiful place, and I feel so lucky to have found a state of the art Memory Unit right here in Oregon.

So as I find my way through my new reality, I'm slowing finding my family and my home, (which is still decorated with XMAS decor). Regardless, hug your Valentines on the 14th and everyday you have the chance. Love, Christy

For my Mom

This has been a very sad time in my life while I've been caretaking for my mom who is suffering from dementia. I keep seeing a little Whimsie covering her eyes as the river of tears surround her. Please pray for me and my mom that we find the best solution for her care going forward. I truly appreciate it!

I love hellos.... I hate good-byes... I was lucky to have Jillian home for almost 3 weeks, and I loved every minute of it! Off she went this morning to prepare for about a 3 month job with Janet J, so it will be a bit before I see her again.

I did a couple of paintings for the PFATT Marketplace, and probably will be the last Whimsies for 2007.

As long as we survive this week with the kitchen, we will make it. The refrigerator is moving to the living room tomorrow...ugh..... Hopefully to be returned on Saturday, along with it's other friends the stove, microwave, and a new friend... a dishwasher! Crazy thought... a machine that washes dishes!!! I've heard they are amazing... lol...

I am Thankful

I am thankful for so many things this Thanksgiving. As hard as this year has been with heart ache, I am ever so thankful for all that I have:

1. First of all my family....My 3 children and my sweet Elf comfort my days with love and support.
2. My parents for giving me the ability to dream..(I love you Dad!)
3. My cozy little home, even with it being 1 kitchen short this Thanksgiving.
4. Having a creative spirit with the ability to follow my Whimsical dreams
5. My health and for having diabetes... Yes, I am even thankful for that.. If I had not contracted it, I would not be as healthy and 85 lbs lighter.
6. For my best friends that I might have never touched, but always in my heart each day.

Here is just one example of pure friendship....Penny McAlister I met Penny at a show (Folkart Invitational) in Orange County, CA about 4 years ago. We "roomed" together, without much thought, and it changed my life forever. Penny has been a constant cheerleader in my pursuit of spreading Whimsies around the world. She introduced me to Midwest and others, and has continually educated me about the industry, techniques, and products. Penny has always held my hand through the highest highs and the lowest lows. To think that I've only hugged her a few times seems impossible, as she has "hugged" me at least 100 times through emails and over the phone. I am celebrating her Whimsical work and her most receent accomplishment of "beating me" to be published in Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion magazine. God Bless you Penny, and thank you for being my friend.
